What is the earliest an ultrasound can detect an ectopic

Patient

Q: What is the earliest an ultrasound can detect an ectopic pregnancy? I went into the doctor on Wednesday the 25th and they informed me I am pregnant. I believe that I would only have been days pregnant at this point. They said it is too soon to tell anything or if the baby is in it's proper place and not in the tubes. They wanted me to come back today (Friday the 27th) to do another ultrasound. But I believe it may still be too early to tell. So, what is the earliest you will be able to tell if it is an ectopic pregnancy?
