Patient : About two years ago, a doctor at a clinic told me that i have HSV-1. i have two questions about this: first, i've noticed that instead of cold sores, my lip simply cracks. this happens in the same spot the majority of times, just like i've read cold sores do. is this normal, uncommon, different, unique? also, the frequency of my outbreaks is extremely high. i haven't had a solid two week period in the last two years during which i wasn't nursing a split lip, fortunate that it doesn't look like a cold sore, but devastated that this is now the vast majority of my life. i realize that there isn't a cure, but is there anything i can take that might at least spread the outbreaks apart? i'm in my mid 20's and this is a HUGE problem for me. thank you.
