Patient :What kind of eating disorder do I have? It is very difficult for me to try new foods, I am 14 years old male. Whenever I am presented with a new food that I am not familiar with I am almost "scared" of experiencing a new taste because of the potential for it to taste undesirable. I can only currently eat fatty foods like fried chicken and other chicken variants, french fries, mac and cheese, hot dogs, chocolate, cheese, and pizza. My BMI is around a 19 even though I eat very unhealthy foods constantly, but I am very weak, pushups are difficult to do. I drink soda and don't like trying mixed drinks. I have never tried (or wanted to try): most candies, ice cream, almost any school lunch that isn't mac and cheese, chicken, fries, or a hot dog. I find my self saying "no thanks" at numerous events that offer complex food dishes. I have never felt anything wrong with my body regarding this, other than occasional tooth pain from drinking too much soda, and every single person in my direct family and my grandmother have BMi's of 29 or more, including my 2 brothers. I don't understand how I am thin and relatively healthy looking on the outside while all I eat is garbage and I am afraid to try to foods, and I wouldn't dare to try a fruit or a vegetable that isn't a banana, because the tastes make me too scared to try it. Even if something tastes good, a lot of the times my brain will manipulate the taste to make it taste worse, so that way I can say "I don't like it" and quickly end the experience of this new alien taste. Thank you for helping me.
