Where can flu shot be injected

Patient

Q: Can the flu shot be injected in the hip muscle?

Symptoms:  None
Doctor

A:   Thank you for your question. The influenza vaccine (seasonal flu shot) is recommended to be injected inter-muscularly. In patients over the age of three years old, the most common site of injection is in the deltoid muscle of the shoulder. This vaccine can be administered in the buttock or thigh, but this is not common practice. Different medical practitioners under different regulations may follow alternative protocol. We hope this information was useful.
