Whooping Cough Vaccine in Pregnancy

Patient : I am currently 28 weeks pregnant and would like to receive the whooping cough vaccine. My concern is, when I was little and received the DTaP vaccine, I had what my pediatrician described as an adverse reaction, although the symptoms of the reaction were only severe, inconsolable crying for several days. They associated this to the pertussis portion of the vaccine and would no loner allow me to have the shot. I have now been told that the vaccine given to adults is very different, and since my reaction did not seem server as a child, I should really consider going ahead and getting it while pregnant. Unfortunately, my OB did not really have much of an opinion and left the decision up to me, and I was really looking for another medical professional's opinion.
