Why a tonsillectomy is postponed for antibiotics?

Q: My daughter has had 10 positive strep cultures in the past year and we are opting to have her tonsils removed. Our ENT said that she has to be off of antibiotics for 6 weeks prior to the surgery. My problem is that she hasn't been going more than 2 weeks between bouts with strep and there's no way she will go that long. She finished a full round of antibiotics two days ago and its already back. It seems to be coming back more and more and the antibiotics are failing us. What is your opinion?
