Yeast infections and guys

Patient

Q: Can you give a guy a yeast infection even if you've never had one your entire life?

Doctor

A:   Thank you for your question. Sometimes women may have subclinical yeast infections which may not present with any symptoms at all. This yeast infection can be passed on to your male partner via unprotected sexual intercourse. The fungal yeasts causing a yeast infection, candida albicans, can proliferate resulting in a yeast in the male partner. This will have to be treated with oral and topical antifungal medications prescribed by a doctor.
